Kuichi

Kuichi - San Genaro, Lima
Rosa Palomino, Hidivia Alejandro, Jobita Auccayllo, Pricila Vilchez, Silvia Catpo

When five women from Chorrillos in Lima established the group that would become Kuichi, their purpose was simply to mend clothes. One day, however, they began to discuss the possibility of forming a workshop in which they could support themselves economically, so that they wouldn't have to leave their children while working. One of the members looked on the internet for ideas and came across Partners for Just Trade and contacted us. At first, none of their products were accepted, and the Fair Trade project advised the women on how to improve the products' quality. Now we buy their products, and they became a part of Bridge of Hope, which helps them access more customers. Kuichi is the Quechua word for “rainbow”.
