La Primavera
Primavera - Lima
Maribel Zamudio, Clara Zamudio,
Julieta Huamani, Katty
Lopez, Amelia Melgar
"Springtime" was born out of a dream of 5 women living on Lima's poor Northside. The women knew each other from their local church, which is a member institution of the Joining Hands Network. This group was the first church group to join the Bridges of Hope project.
Primavera felt it was important to remain open to artisans outside of their Christian denomination, and today the group is half Protestant and half Catholic. The women sew vests, Bible covers, checkbook covers, among other projects. Both product design and the finishing touches presented challenges for the group but with training from the Bridge of Hope project team, and much effort on their part, slowly but surely, they have developed their skills to the point that they are able to export their products overseas.
Today, the women meet twice a week to hone skills, develop new product designs and produce their wares.
