Five women work together in this group which produces knitting and crochet products. The women belong to the Good News Evangelical Church in the shantytown called, interestingly enough, "Development-Bound". The town's name speaks volumes about what people want: basic economic development. For years the women have met regularly to help each other out in the production of handicrafts to s
upplement their
income. Through Joining Hands Network member
organization, the Fraternidad Cristiana Vida,
they became acquainted with the
Fair Trade Bridge, and organized themselves to
begin product design and
production.
The project provides a place where the women can practice Christian solidarity and the sharing of one another's burdens. One of the goals is to encourage other women living in poverty in their neighborhood to organize artisan groups.
